El Patron - Shrimp Burrito Review (3/3/2010)

 El Patron Mexican Grill
15817 Bernardo Center Drive
San Diego, CA 92127-2322
 (858) 451-3055

Nice little sit down Mexican place located in Poway.  This burrito was recommended by a friend who lives close by and always eats here.

Shrimp Burrito Review: (3/3/2010)

Ingredients: Shrimp,rice, sauce.

Size: 8/10
Burrito is about above average in size. I took the picture with the plastic fork so you get an idea of how big it is.

Taste:8 /10
Really good tasting burrito.  I like the rice they used.  Reminds me of Popeye's rice texture and taste.

Will I Get Full? 8/10
Yes, you will get full.  Burrito did the job and satisfied my hunger.  As an added bonus they give chips and salsa with your order.

Shrimp count: 14
Only 14 shrimp, still trying to find the average amount most shrimp burritos have. I've seen a range from 12 to 19 so 14 is on the lower side.

Recommend? YES, they don't go skimpy on the burrito, the food quality is great.  Friendly and relaxing environment.
Price: $5.89, after taxes $6.34 (So far the most expensive burrito I've reviewed, however the quality makes up for it.  Also the chips and salsa is a great bonus.)

Plazas Mexican Food - Shrimp Burrito Review (2/22/2010)

1550 Broadway
(between Anita St & Silvas St)
Chula Vista, CA 91911
(619) 476-1290

This is a Mexican shop located in Chula Vista that I've been to but I usually eat their menudo there. They also have really good caviche if you love seafood. This is my first time eating their shrimp burrito. Enjoy!

Shrimp Burrito Review: (2/22/2010)

Ingredients: Shrimp, rice with carrots and corn, some type of sauce.

Size: 7/10
Burrito is about above average in size. I took the picture with the plastic fork and knife so you get an idea of how big it is.

Taste: 6.5/10
Nothing special about their shrimp burrito. The rice was very wet from whatever ype of sauce they used. The shrimp was soft and tender, just like the Cotijas shrimp from their burrito.

Will I Get Full? 9/10
I was surprisingly very full after their shrimp burrito. I think it was from all the rice tho.

Shrimp count: 14
Only 14 shrimp, still trying to find the average amount most shrimp burritos have. I've seen a range from 12 to 19 so 14 is on the lower side.

Recommend? NO.. But yes to the price.
I would recommend other shrimp burritos before trying this unless if you like wet rice mixed with corn and carrots. The burrito will get you full and the price is great.

Price: $3.90, after taxes $4.24 (So far the cheapest shrimp burrito, beats out Los Reyes Mexican & Seafood
)

Cotija's Diablo Shrimp Burrito

Nestled on the south side of Highland Avenue, Cotija Taco Shop still wears the architectural uniform of times past; the simple taco shop stands almost unappealing across a recently remodeled KFC, within an equally remodeled shopping center.

Spurred by a loyal reader's recommendation, Neil and I headed over to Cotija Taco Shop to try its much hyped Diablo Shrimp Burrito (DSB henceforth). The DSB had everything I look for in a shrimp burrito: Mexican rice and a fair amount of shrimps. The DSB, despite the hype, did not impress me--the regular shrimp burrito tasted a lot better. The rice and sauce in the DSB did not impress, it was bland. The only thing I liked about the DSB is the amount of shrimps, I counted 20. At $5.70 (tax included) it's one of the more expensive shrimp burritos; I will not be buying this again.

Los Reyes Mexican & Seafood - Shrimp Burrito Review (2/19/2010)

 Los Reyes Mexican & Seafood
1270 Picadoor Blvd. Ste. I
San Diego, CA 92154-7428
(619) 690-3788

This Mexican shop is pretty well hidden is located in a small plaza where the old DMV & Post Office used to be.  It's more of a sit down type restaurant and has a very nice "homey" feel to it.  I was recommend to try out their food by one of my friends so here's the review.

Shrimp Burrito Review: (2/19/2010)

Ingredients: Shrimp, Mexican salsa, rice, tarter sauce and diablo sauce.

Size: 7/10
Burrito is about average in size.  The burrito was long in length, but skinnier than most burritos.  If you look at the picture, it is a little longer than the table knife.

Taste:  8.5/10
This burrito was very tasty and will be on my top 5.  I like the rice they used, it has an authentic Mexican taste that separates itself from the rest I've tried.  I usually don't eat tarter sauce but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  Didn't even taste like tarter sauce in my opinion.

Will I Get Full? 8/10
I got full after eating the burrito.  The rice can get you full alone.  Has a perfect blend of spices and the taste stands out.  This burrito should get you full because of the flavoring of the rice and shrimp.

Shrimp count: 12
Only 12 shrimp, a disappointment, however the taste of the burrito and the rice make up for it.  The shrimp did not taste like any regular shrimp, it had it's own marinated taste that was delicious.

Recommend? YES!
This burrito shop has a small restaurant like feel to it.  Everybody that worked there was very friendly.  They serve different types of seafood plates so if you like Mexican seafood, there are a lot of options to try here.  As an added bonus, they offer chips and salsa with no charge so that's a PLUS!

Price: $3.99, after taxes $4.34 (So far the cheapest shrimp burrito I've encountered)

Cotijas - Shrimp Burrito Review (2/16/2010)

Cotijas
740 East 30th Street
National City, CA 91950-7428

(619) 474-7430

I've been to this taco shop many times but I've only tried their California burrito and carne asada burrito.  They used to offer a a 99 cent bean burrito back in the days that was pretty fulfilling.  We had a request a review and they mentioned to try out their Diablo Shrimp Burrito and I found some reviews stating it's the best shrimp burrito in San Diego.  You can find the review on the Diable Shrimp Burrito here.

Shrimp Burrito Review:

Ingredients: Shrimp, onion, white sauce & Mexican salsa.

Size: 8/10
Burrito is above average in size.  It's not small in any way and is worth the money.

Taste:  9/10
This burrito was very tasty and will be on my top 5.  The sauce is really delicious, as the white sauce and Mexican salsa blend very well together.  There was no "filler" type of ingredient like rice or lettuce which is how I prefer shrimp burritos.

Will I Get Full? 8/10
I did get full from this burrito and it did satisfy my hunger.

Shrimp count: 19
Tons of shrimp, you will get some shrimp with almost every bite.  The shrimp was VERY soft and tender and above average in size.

Recommend? YES!
So far this is my favorite shrimp burrito out of the 3 taco shops I've reviewed thus far.  I recommend this shrimp burrito to everybody and you can taste it for yourself.  The white sauce and Mexican salsa taste delicious.

Price: $5.19, after taxes $5.70
